THE PREDICTION
20th seed John Isner produced a vintage display late on Wednesday night to beat Andy Murray for the first time in his career, blasting the two-time champion off the court in four sets with 36 aces and just two double faults. The 37-year-old veteran will take some serious stopping if he can maintain his first serve-in percentage, currently over 70% across two rounds, moving forwards and he looks the slight favourite against world number 13 Jannik Sinner here despite the Italian’s formidable wingspan. 20-year-old Sinner is still finding his feet on grass but two four-set victories over Stan Wawrinka and Mikael Ymer are welcome first wins on the surface and he has plenty of potential to eventually excel in these conditions.
Isner and Sinner share a finely poised head-to-head record at 1-1 with a win apiece on hardcourts last season but grass will favour the American’s hammer serve and if he finds the level that ousted Murray he can be backed to win outright here. Add at least a tiebreak in the match for good measure, which is always worth it when Isner is involved.
