THE PREDICTION

World number 42 Matteo Arnaldi came back from a set down to stun Alexei Popyrin on Thursday in a continuation of his recent blistering form. The 22-year-old reached the round of 16 at the US Open after upsetting Cam Norrie in the third round last month, a run that might have been expected on clay but inly proved his star is ascending as a talented all-courter. World number 27 Jan-Lennard Struff set a career-high ATP world ranking of 21st after a shock run to the Madrid Masters final in April but he has struggled with frustrating injuries since. Another runners-up place at the Stuttgart Open in June was proof of his level when fit but he has played just five matches since and a two-match losing streak in China does not bode well. Three sets seem likelier than two here so back in-form Arnaldi to earn at least one to leave the victor up to chance.
