World number 10 Casper Ruud beat Alejandro Tabilo handily on Wednesday to bounce back well from his disappointing exit to Pedro Martinez in the semi-finals of the Estoril Open last week, where he was defending champion. The 25-year-old now faces the new Estoril champion in Hubert Hurkacz, who set a career-high ATP world ranking of eighth after beating Martinez in straight sets to claim his first ever clay-court title.
27-year-old Hurkacz made it six wins on the spin with an impressive straight-sets result over Roberto Bautista Agut on Wednesday, backing-up a tight opener over Jack Draper, but this looks a significant step-up against one of the true great clay-courters on tour. Ruud beat Hurkacz in four sets at Roland-Garros in 2022 before the Pole returned the favour in three sets at the Canada Masters, suggesting this match will need a decider before Ruud edges through.
