THE PREDICTION

27-year-old Harriet Dart could set a new career-high WTA world ranking of 82nd after qualifying for the Madrid Masters in impressive fashion this week, coming back from sets down twice against Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Maria Timofeeva. The Brit enjoyed a career-best run to the semi-finals of the Transylvania Open in February, losing in straight sets to eventual champion Karolina Pliskova, and she started 2024 off in fine form, finishing runner-up at the Canberra Challenger. World number 75 Cristina Bucsa won the Women’s Doubles title at the Bogota Open earlier this season, alongside Kamilla Rakhimova, but she has not played since then to come in slightly cold. The 26-year-old may struggle for attention as a home hopeful on this saturated first full day in Madrid but she remains the slight favourite in this first tour-level encounter between the two. Given Dart’s qualifying results, and momentum, back the Brit to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.

TIP: HARRIET DART TO WIN A SET
