THE PREDICTION
World number 80 Thanasi Kokkinakis exorcised some serious demons on Tuesday when he overcame Sebastian Ofner in five sets one year on from his loss from two sets up to Andy Murray in the second round. The 27-year-old won his maiden ATP title on home soil at the Adelaide 2 Open in 2022 but he has struggled to push on since, with the excessive injuries of his formative years replaced now with serious inconsistency at this level. World number 13 Grigor Dimitrov had to come back from a set down to beat Marton Fucsovics on Tuesday but the Bulgarian is enjoying one of the better periods of his career to look the solid favourite here. The 32-year-old finally won his eight ATP title, at the Brisbane International two weeks ago, to break his five-year duck stretching back to the 2017 ATP Finals and he has won more matches on tour than anybody since the US Open. Sets should go both ways with the Melbourne crowd firmly behind Kokkinakis but back Dimitrov to break hearts on his promising run.
