THE PREDICTION

World number 16 Karen Khachanov beat Stefanos Tsitsipas for the first time on Tuesday to get on the board in a one-sided 6-1 head-to-head with the Greek. The 26-year-old has reached the semi-finals in each of his last two Grand Slams to show huge progress after a few ropey seasons but it remains to be seen if he can ever return to his former heights of world number eight. Khachanov reached world number eight after winning the Paris Masters in 2018 but remains his latest of four ATP titles on tour. World number 31 Francisco Cerundolo claimed his first at the Bastad Open last summer on clay but he has arguably impressed more on hardcourts after bursting onto the scene here last season with a run to the semi-finals. The Argentine is one match away from fantastically emulating that run after coming back from a set down to Lorenzo Sonego but despite his excellent upset over fifth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in the third round this looks his toughest match yet. Expect long rallies between two baseline enthusiasts but back Khachanov to edge through outright, probably in three sets.
