THE PREDICTION
World number 11 Hubert Hurkacz avoided a potential upset with an assured victory over Roberto Bautista Agut on Wednesday, backing-up a strong three-set opener over Sebastian Korda. The 26-year-old is in hot pursuit of one of the three remaining ATP Finals places, currently ninth with Holger Rune, Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas ahead of him, to set a thrilling backdrop to the action in Paris-Bercy and his recent form suggests he has enough to sneak in after winning the Shanghai Masters last month. Hurkacz has reached the final in each of his last two tournaments after finishing runner-up to Felix Auger-Aliassime last week in Basel but this is a tough test of that resolve against world number 21 Francisco Cerundolo, who ended Casper Ruud’s race on Wednesday. The 25-year-old came back from a set down to upset in-form home favourite Gael Monfils in the first round and he has proven before that he can roll on momentum at this level with runs to the semi-finals and quarter-finals of the Miami Masters in successive seasons.
Indoor conditions suit Hurkacz best but the Pole could find himself in yet another three-set battle before just sneaking through. Back Hurkacz, who won their only previous meeting in Astana last season, to win outright.
BETTING TIP: Hubert Hurkacz to win.
