THE PREDICTION

This should be an excellent watch for clay tennis fans as world number 21 Francisco Cerundolo, top seed this week in Bucharest, faces fellow Argentine Federico Coria. 25-year-old Cerundolo won his maiden ATP title on clay at the Bastad Open in 2022 but he has impressed across all surfaces in recent seasons, albeit so far starting a little sluggishly in 2024.

World number 83 Coria beat Benjamin Bonzi in straight sets on Monday to continue some solid form on his by-far favoured surface. The 32-year-old reached back-to-back semi-finals on home clay in Cordoba and Buenos Aires back in February, stunning Argentine number one Sebastian Baez and Cam Norrie in the latter, and he leads Cerundolo 3-2 in their head-to-head with each of their five matches coming on clay so far. Cerundolo looked in decent shape in Monte-Carlo last week but Coria has the running start in Bucharest. Consider a one-off on Coria to earn at least a set but taking the same option in favour of Cerundolo is the most suitably cautious option.

TIP: FRANCISCO CERUNDOLO TO WIN A SET
