FLAVIO COBOLLI VS BEN SHELTON PREDICTION
22-year-old Flavio Cobolli brought a career-high ATP world ranking of 56th into the Geneva Open after some excellent recent results on clay, including victories over in-form Alejandro Tabilo and Rome runner-up Nicolas Jarry at the Madrid Open last month. The Italian hit the clay running on Monday with a straight-sets victory over Aslan Karatsev, following a competitive exit to Sebastian Korda in Rome, and he should not be underestimated against fourth seed Ben Shelton.
World number 15 Shelton received a bye to the round of 16 for his seeding but he could well have done with a kinder first round draw here in Geneva. The 21-year-old won his second ATP title at Houston Open last month, on clay, but he has struggled to transfer that form into European conditions in recent weeks with two avoidable defeats to Alexander Bublik and Zhizhen Zhang in Madrid and Rome, respectively.
Shelton has dropped sets in six of his eight matches on clay so far this season to suggest in-form Cobolli stands a chance in conditions that suit him best. Back the Italian to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.
