THE PREDICTION

World number 80 Dusan Lajovic is well capable of beating the likes of Aslan Karatsev on his days and he found himself in that mood on Wednesday, ousting the fourth seed in straight sets. The 32-year-old is one of the better clay-courters on tour but his ‘days’ have come fewer and further between over the last few years, with his run to the Monte-Carlo Open final in 2019 the last real, concentrated display of what he is capable. 20-year-old Filip Misolic will break the top 200 for a first time after upsetting Pablo Andujar in a comprehensive straight-sets win, handing the veteran a second-set bagel en-route. The Austrian will be backed to the hilt on Thursday and as a relative unknown this could be a really tricky match-up for Lajovic. The Serb should win in straight sets but too often we have seen a loss of intensity that makes this must-leave-out from any accumulators. Backing Misolic to win at least a set could be the shrewd move here even if he ends up losing, although Lajovic at his best wins this in two.
