THE PREDICTION

World number 48 Emil Ruusuvuori should be considered a dark horse for a deep run here at the Miami Open after thriving at this tournament like no place else in recent seasons. The 24-year-old first came to the fore by stunning Alexander Zverev en-route to the round of 16 here in 2021 and he bettered that with a quarter-final exit last season – notably losing out to Jannik Sinner in all three of his previous appearances. With that odd stat in mind, the Finn will be aiming to win his maiden ATP title this fortnight if he can only avoid the imperious Italian – but more seriously he could be a genuine threat to the top order here. World number 56 Yannick Hanfmann enjoyed the best tennis of his career last summer on the natural surfaces and he will be awaiting a return to his favoured clay next month. The German brings woeful hardcourt form into this first tour-level encounter with Ruusuvuori, who could be tentatively backed to blast through in two.

TIP: EMIL RUUSUVUORI TO WIN 2-0
