THE PREDICTION

World number 11 Jannik Sinner made short work of beating Andrey Rublev in straight sets on Tuesday to make a statement of intent as he nears a return to the top 10 on tour. The 21-year-old is yet to drop a set this fortnight and it took eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz to oust him from the semi-finals of Indian Wells earlier this month after he beat defending champion Taylor Fritz at this stage. That does not bode well for first time Masters quarter-finalists Emil Ruusuvuori, especially as he has lost all four previous meetings against the Italian. 23-year-old Ruusuvuori came back from a set down to beat Botic van de Zandschulp on Tuesday to improve on his first real run at this level here two years ago but this looks about his ceiling for the moment. Sinner has dropped just one set to the Finn in four matches so backing the 10th seed to come through in straight sets seems reasonable.
