THE PREDICTION

28-year-old Jasmine Paolini brought a career-high WTA world ranking of 14th into the Stuttgart Open after her stunning run to the Dubai Masters title in February, although she can thank Elena Rybakina for pulling out of their quarter-final to heavily boost her chances. The Italian is yet to drop a set this week after out-lasting an initial assault by an out-of-sorts Ons Jabeur on Thursday but this looks a step too far against world number four Rybakina, whose powerful game benefits from the unique indoors conditions of this outlier clay tournament.

24-year-old Rybakina overcame a tough opener against Veronika Kudermetova to suggest she is still far from the peak of her powers but she beat Paolini in straight sets en-route to the Rome Masters title last May and it took an injury to hand Paolini a 1-1 draw in their head-to-head later in Cincinnati. Paolini is a tough player not to underestimate given her recent rise from top 60 obscurity to top 10 contention but Rybakina should have enough to come through this test. Back the Kazakh to win.

TIP: ELENA RYBAKINA TO WIN
