THE PREDICTION
24-year-old Elena Rybakina moved back up to a career-high WTA world ranking of third after an incredible performance against Aryna Sabalenka at the Brisbane International last week, with Sabalenka failing to hold her serve for the first hour in a 6-0 6-3 result. Rybakina took the first set from Sabalenka before a tight defeat in a thrilling Australian Open final this time last season and she announced herself a clear contender for the title this time around, clearly refreshed and recharged after enduring a tough second-half of 2023. 26-year-old Cristina Bucsa has drawn the short straw here in Adelaide but she has already ridden her luck once, coming through qualifying as a lucky loser before an impressive straight sets victory over Jasmine Paolini.
The Spaniard brought a career-high WTA world ranking of 61st into the tournament after ending 2023 with some strong work on the Challenger circuit but this first meeting with Rybakina looks far too steep of a challenge. Back the Kazakh to win in two.
TIP: ELENA RYBAKINA TO WIN 2-0
