THE PREDICTION
World number 52 Dominik Koepfer should be able to get back on the horse here as he aims to snap a five-match losing streak that stretches back to a huge run to the round of 16 at the Miami Open. The 30-year-old can often blow hot and cold on tour but after spending much of the last two seasons repairing his game on the Challenger circuit he should be able to return to form sooner rather than later, with encouraging signs in more recent defeats. World number 168 Andrea Vavassori beat Pedro Cachin to the second round of the Miami Open in March but he has failed to win a tour-level match since. The 29-year-old will be backed by a partisan home crowd here in Rome but Koepfer beat him en-route to the Canberra Challenger title in January and he should be able to edge through this first tour-level meeting to boost some shot confidence.
TIP: DOMINIK KOEPFER TO WIN
