21-year-old Diane Parry set a career-high WTA world ranking of 49th this time last month after an excellent run to the round of 16 at Indian Wells, where she lost in three sets to a resurgent Maria Sakkari. The Frenchwoman has an excellent, powerful game suitable for all surfaces but she has so far impressed mostly on clay, although she has endured a tough spell so far this swing with a 1-2 record coming into Rome.
World number 46 Anna Blinkova has played out an odd season so far, with fluctuating highs and lows seeing her beat the likes of Elena Rybakina and Jessica Pegula but also bring a four-match losing streak into Rome. Parry began that run of poor form in the third round at Indian Wells, beating the Russian in straight sets, to lead 1-0 in their head-to-head but her fitness is questionable ahead of this rematch and Blinkova is currently one of the most unpredictable players on tour.
