THE PREDICTION

This should be a fascinating and likely thrilling fifth edition of an entertaining rivalry on the ATP tour. World number four Daniil Medvedev is so often dependable against players ranked below him but there has often been something of a blind spot in matches against Sebastian Korda and, coupled with this first encounter between the two on his least favoured surface, an upset looks on the cards. World number 26 Korda’s main issue keeping him from a mainstay spot inside the top 20, if not higher, is consistency on tour but he won his maiden ATP title on clay at the Parma Open three years ago and he looked in good shape on Saturday in a straight-sets victory over Max Purcell, whilst Medvedev fought back against up-and-coming Matteo Arnaldi.

23-year-old Korda famously out-played Medvedev at the Australian Open last season, in peak form that was ended by an unfortunate injury later in the quarter-finals, and he backed that up with victory at the Shanghai Masters in October before Medvedev levelled their head-to-head 2-2 in three sets at Indian Wells last month. Korda has earned at least a set in all four of their previous matches to offer the suitable way to avoid a result here but the American could be backed, outside of an accumulator, to cause an upset here with some - elsewhere elusive - confidence in this match-up.

TIP: SEBASTIAN KORDA TO WIN
