THE PREDICTION

World number one Daniil Medvedev beat Miomir Kecmanovic in impressive straight sets on Friday to extend his stay as the top player on tour. The 26-year-old is yet to drop a set this week in his first tournament since late June, due in large part to the Russian/Belarussian ban at Wimbledon and other LTA events, but he looks in excellent shape as he gears up for a defence of his first Grand Slam title at the US Open next month. Defending Los Cabos champion Cam Norrie overcame second-seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in three sets on Friday for a huge first win over the Canadian at the fifth attempt. The Brit also 26, continues to rewrite what he is capable of on tour in what has been one of the biggest transformations over two seasons in recent memory. A run to the semi-finals of Wimbledon last time out is his crowning achievement but close behind is his Masters title won at Indian Wells last season and these conditions suit him.

Unfortunately, they suit Medvedev too. The Russian is probably the best player on tour on the North American swing and it should take the likes of Novak Djokovic, where possible, and Rafael Nadal to oust him over the next few months. Back Medvedev to win outright here, with Norrie well capable of forcing a decider.
