DANIEL ALTMAIER VS STEFANOS TSITSIPAS PREDICTION
World number nine Stefanos Tsitsipas overcame an initial assault by tough draw Marton Fucsovics on Monday, edging a 9-7 tiebreak in the first of eventual straight sets. The 25-year-old threw aside some poor form to win his third Monte-Carlo Masters title last month but exits to the likes of Thiago Monteiro and Nicolas Jarry since should be below his lofty standards on this surface.
World number 83 Daniel Altmaier is another very tough draw for the Greek. 25-year-old Altmaier edged past fellow clay-court specialist Laslo Djere in five tight sets on Sunday, with two days’ rest since enough to not worry about fatigue, and he enjoyed the best win of his career at this exact stage of Roland-Garros last year, where he stunned eighth seed Jannik Sinner in five to prove his potential in these conditions.
Tsitsipas is stronger on clay than that version of Sinner but a first meeting with Altmaier could be nerve-ridden and the German will be all too aware of his opponent’s fragile confidence. Back Altmaier to earn at least a set to leave this likely thriller up to chance but keep this one out of accumulators.
