THE PREDICTION
World number 54 Daniel Altmaier beat Harold Mayot in straight sets on Thursday to get a decent foothold in at the Miami Open but this looks a significantly tougher challenge. The 25-year-old stunned Alexander Zverev in three sets at the Mexican Open last month to prove his abilities at this level but inconsistency has been his greatest enemy so far. World number 25 Jan-Lennard Struff saw off Borna Coric in three tight sets this time two weeks ago at Indian Wells before a thankless task against red-hot Jannik Sinner, to whom he lost in straight sets. The 33-year-old has enjoyed some of the best tennis of his career over the past 12 months, despite injury setbacks, and his more dependable power should see him through to the third round once again. Altmaier beat Struff in straight sets on his favoured clay at Roland-Garros four years ago but back Struff to return the favour in conditions that better suit the powerful elder German.
TIP: JAN-LENNARD STRUFF TO WIN
