THE PREDICTION

World number 11 Daria Kasatkina in in her happy place on clay with a robust, consistent counter-punching game that favours using opponents’ power against them in these conditions. The 26-year-old enjoyed a brilliant run to the Charleston Open final earlier this month, where she won her maiden WTA title in 2017, but a fifth defeat in a final on the spin – and a third this season – is certainly of some concern. Kasatkina has reached the round of 16 here in each of her last two seasons and she looks well capable of hitting the clay running against world number 75 Cristina Bucsa, who came through a wide-open first round clash with Harriet Dart comfortably on Wednesday. Bucsa should enjoy a small partisan support as the home hopeful but Kasatkina has all the tools to enjoy another deep run this fortnight. Back the Russian to win in two.

TIP: DARIA KASATKINA TO WIN 2-0
