THE PREDICTION
This is a huge opportunity for one of world number 82 Marton Fucsovics and number 92 Corentin Moutet to make a rare foray into the semi-finals of a tour-level event. 24-year-old Moutet will be desperate to build on an impressive week so far in Bucharest, overcoming in-form Nuno Borges in three sets on Thursday to back-up an excellent opener over Denis Shapovalov, as he continues his road back from a lengthy injury absence.
32-year-old Fucsovics caused perhaps the biggest shock of the tournament so far, though, when he blasted past second seed Tallon Griekspoor on Thursday. The Hungarian also impressed in Estoril two weeks ago, upsetting Gael Monfils en-route to the quarter-finals there, and it took defending champion Casper Ruud to oust him there. Moutet beat Fucsovics in straight sets in their only previous meeting back in 2022 but that was certainly Fucsovics’ worst year on tour. Expect this clash to come a lot closer in conditions that suit both, although Moutet is probably the more effective clay-courter overall. Back the Frenchman to win at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.
