CORENTIN MOUTET – Through to the second week of Roland-Garros for the first time
World number 79 Corentin Moutet came back from a set down to beat Sebastian Ofner on Friday, his third four-set victory in a row en-route to a first round of 16 at Roland-Garros. It is the second round of 16 of the Frenchman’s career after a shock run to the second week at the US Open in 2022, where he lost in four sets to Casper Ruud.
JANNIK SINNER – Australian Open champion
World number two Jannik Sinner is yet to drop a set this week at Roland-Garros and he can match is best run here from 2020 by reaching the quarter-finals. The Italian came back from two sets down to beat Daniil Medvedev to the Australian Open title in January, his first Grand Slam, and he could become the first player, outside of the Big Three, to win back-to-back majors since Andre Agassi in 2000.
CORENTIN MOUTET VS JANNIK SINNER PREDICTION
The Roland-Garros faithful will give everything they have to Corentin Moutet’s cause on Sunday but this looks one step too far for the diminutive Frenchman. Moutet’s biggest strengths are his sumptuous touch on clay and his elite-level wind-up merchant tactics but he should find both weapons dulled against ice-cold Jannik Sinner, who will attempt to keep Moutet behind the baseline.
Sinner is far too assured in his own rising star to get mixed up in playing the villain of this piece but it would not be a surprise to see Moutet run him close in the first set. Back the Italian to win in three all the same.
