THE PREDICTION

World number three Coco Gauff reached the semi-finals of Indian Wells last week without ever really finding her best level but whilst that is hugely promising of her grit, latent ability and longevity in the sport it remains concerning that we have not seen her ruthless best since last August – where she won the Citi Open and Cincinnati Masters before snatching the US Open title on momentum more than level. The 20-year-old also reached the last four at the Australian Open in January despite labouring to plenty of her victories in Melbourne but it could be a different story here on home soil in Miami as the Florida native will be backed to the hilt by a partisan crowd all fortnight.

World number 78 Nadia Podoroska grabbed an eye-catching straight-sets victory over Ashlyn Krueger on Wednesday to build on a strong qualifying run. The 27-year-old has been on the long journey back towards her career-high of 36th for some time but recent performances suggest she could thoroughly enjoy life back on her favoured clay next month. Back Gauff to win this first encounter in straight sets.

TIP: COCO GAUFF TO WIN 2-0
