THE PREDICTION

Two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka needed three sets to overcome a strong challenge by the enigmatic Camila Giorgi on Monday. The 34-year-old reached the semi-finals here last season before a straight-sets defeat to Elena Rybakina, eventual runner-up, but she stunned the likes of Madison Keys and Jessica Pegula en-route to prove her lasting efficacy at this tournament. Do not underestimate 21-year-old Clara Tauson, though, as the Dane almost broke inside the top 30 in 2022 before injury set her back a way. The Dane moved back inside the top 100 after a run to the Canberra Challenger semi-finals at the start of the year and it should not be long before she rediscovers her previous rising star.

A straight-sets victory over Greet Minnen on Tuesday was a solid start to her Melbourne campaign but Azarenka won their only previous meeting in straight sets at Roland-Garros three years ago and she can be backed to use all of her experience to edge through here.

TIP: VICTORIA AZARENKA TO WIN
