THE PREDICTION

22-year-old Clara Burel brought a career-high WTA world ranking of 51st into Melbourne and she looked in strong shape in her straight-sets victory over Aleksandra Krunic on Monday. The Frenchwoman has not been afforded a kind draw here, though, as she faces world number five Jessica Pegula aiming to reach the quarter-finals at the Australian Open for a fourth season running. 29-year-old Pegula claimed her most convincing win of what has been a sluggish start to 2024 with a straight-sets result over Rebecca Marino on Tuesday and she should be much better in this second match after settling some nerves. A three-set victory over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova last week in Adelaide was further proof that Pegula’s slow start may be dimming but you could be forgiven for taking a cautious outright win inside an accumulator. Otherwise, back Pegula to come through in two.

TIP: JESSICA PEGULA TO WIN 2-0
