22-year-old Clara Burel could set a new career-high WTA world ranking of 43rd after an excellent comeback over Xiyu Wang on Thursday, building on some solid form that saw her reach the third round at the Australian Open in January. The Frenchwoman stunned an out-of-sorts Jessica Pegula in Melbourne to look ready for a first foray into the top 40 but this should be too steep a step-up in quality against US number one Coco Gauff, who will be eager to make a fast start at Indian Wells after a choppy few weeks on tour. 19-year-old Gauff won the US Open last summer to fulfil her destiny as a prodigal youngster and she successfully defended a title for the first time at the Auckland Classic in January before a brilliant run to the semi-finals of the Australian Open. Exits to Katerina Siniakova and Anna Kalinskaya in Doha and Dubai, respectively, suggest Gauff is currently struggling to find her ruthless best on court but she can be backed to come through this opener in straight sets.
