World number 29 Sebastian Korda came through a very tight clash with Lorenzo Sonego on Wednesday, beating the Italian 12-10 in the second-set tiebreak to look dialled in this week in Adelaide. The 23-year-old finished runner-up to Novak Djokovic at the 500 version of this event last season and then stunned Daniil Medvedev en-route to the quarter-finals of the Australian Open before a serious injury scuppered his trajectory. Korda could be about to return to his previous best but he will do well not to underestimate next opponent Christopher O’Connell, who conceded just four games to in-form Alexander Shevchenko on Wednesday in one of the more surprising results of the week.
