THE PREDICTION

World number two Carlos Alcaraz made it eight wins on the spin with a consummate victory over Gael Monfils, surviving a late surge by the Frenchman to look the champion elect in Miami. The 20-year-old win his first Masters title here two seasons ago and he claimed Indian Wells a year later before successfully defending it earlier this month, putting him in contention for that elusive ‘Sunshine Double’ this weekend. This could be a thrilling encounter with his once contemporary Lorenzo Musetti after the Italian stunned world number 15 Ben Shelton in straight sets to claim one of the shocks of the year.

World number 24 Musetti is a huge talent but his hardcourt performances since last August had been largely bleak until this month, with victory over Shelton on Monday a serious coupon-buster. The Italian enjoyed his best day on tour against Alcaraz two years ago, beating the Spaniard to win the Hamburg 500 on his favoured clay, but Alcaraz has won each of their last two in straight sets to turn the screw in this head-to-head. Back Alcaraz to win in straight sets but expect a real battle in the first.

TIP: CARLOS ALCARAZ TO WIN 2-0
