THE PREDICTION

World number one Carlos Alcaraz beat Jannik Sinner at this stage of Indian Wells two weeks ago to lift his first title there and this should be a thrilling rematch as he targets the rare ‘Sunshine Double’ here in Miami. The 19-year-old beat Taylor Fritz comfortably on Thursday after their match was delayed by rain and he has now won each of his last 10 matches without dropping a set to bring daunting form into this latest edition of a brilliant rivalry with Sinner. The conditions should suit 21-year-old Sinner a little more here than they did in the desert and the Italian has also blasted through the field this fortnight to make it here without dropping a set. Sinner’s two wins over Alcaraz came last season on grass at Wimbledon and clay in the Umag Open final, whilst all three of Alcaraz’s results have come on hardcourts. The Spaniard may well be the world number one due to Novak Djokovic’s self-inflicted absence but he is playing every bit like one right now. Three sets is a distinct possibility but despite Sinner’s excellence it is reasonable to suggest that Alcaraz can come through in two once again here.
