22-year-old Giulio Zeppieri will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of around 107th after an excellent upset over Dusan Lajovic in four sets on Tuesday. The Italian qualified for his Australian Open debut without dropping a set last week to bring some serious form into a first meeting with former number eight Cam Norrie, who enjoyed a comfortable opener over Juan Pablo Varillas to settle some nerves. World number 22 Norrie was forced to withdraw from the Auckland Classic last week with a wrist concern but there was no evidence of a problem on Tuesday, with this kind enough draw set to help him work out some recent kinks in his once dependable game. Norrie should be coming through in straight sets but take the sensible outright concession for caution’s sake.
