THE PREDICTION
World number 59 Botic van de Zandschulp beat Christopher Eubanks in straight sets on Monday and this should, on paper, be a simpler second fixture against world number 82 Alejandro Tabilo. Van de Zandschulp set a career-high ATP world ranking of 22nd back in 2022 and at 28 the Dutchman still has plenty of time to rediscover his tireless best level but there appears to be something of a mentality issue – perhaps stretching back to a gut-wrenching defeat to Holger Rune in the Munich Open final last April. 26-year-old Tabilo qualified well this weekend before coming back from a set down to beat Borna Gojo on Monday, building on some hard work done on the Challenger circuit late last year.
At their respective best, in these conditions, Van de Zandschulp should be coming through this first tour-level encounter in straight sets but back the currently tentative Dutchman to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.
