THE LOWDOWN

BARBORA KREJCIKOVA

Fourth seed Barbora Krejcikova totally dismantled Andrea Petkovic for just two games conceded on Monday to reach the second round of the Australian Open for only a third time. The 25-year-old has won the Mixed Doubles tournament here in each of the last three seasons and she finished runner-up to Aryna Sabalenka and Elise Mertens here in the Women’s Doubles last season but she has only recently transferred her doubles prowess into her singles career. With devastating effects, as the world number five won Roland-Garros last season alongside two WTA titles in Strasbourg and Prague.

XIYU WANG

20-year-old wildcard Xiyu Wang beat qualifier Viktoria Kuzmova in straight sets on Monday in one of the lower-ranked battles of the first round. The world number 139 is making her Australian Open debut here, with this her first Grand Slam second round at the third attempt.

THE PREDICTION

Xiyu Wang made full use of her wildcard on Monday to overcome Viktoria Kuzmova but this should be quite a different experience. World number five Barbora Krejcikova is in a bullish mood on court once again after a few months off the boil and her two games conceded to Andrea Petkovic looks a decent benchmark for what should transpire here. Take the Czech to win in straight sets, with under 5.5 games conceded a tempting one here.
