THE PREDICTION

World number 10 Barbora Krejcikova is the highest ranked player in the WTA Elite Trophy and she will be thoroughly disappointed not to have made the main event in Cancun, with her Grand Slam record letting down an otherwise strong season. Injuries and form issues held her back over the bust summer period, seeing her crash out of the first rounds of both Roland-Garros – where she was champion two years ago – and the US Open, but she won her first Masters title in Dubai back in February and added the San Diego 500 last month. World number 23 Magda Linette set a career-high of 19th after her incredible run to the semi-finals of the Australian Open in January but she has struggled with the new target on her back since. The Pole brings a three-match losing streak into the tournament but she did recently finish runner-up at the Guangzhou Open to bring better form than some into the draw.

Krejcikova will more than likely be dialled-in and ready for a statement-making title challenge here and that makes her very hard to beat. The Czech leads their head-to-head record 2-0 and she can be backed to make that 3-0 here.
