World number 10 Barbora Krejcikova started her Zhuhai campaign predictably strongly against 11th seed Magda Linette, conceding just six games on Tuesday. The 27-year-old will be disappointed to have missed out on the WTA Finals after starting 2023 with a maiden Masters title in Dubai but injuries saw her hampered over much of the clay swing and she has only really picked up since the late hardcourt swing. World number 17 Daria Kasatkina made her debut at the WTA Finals last season but an erratic, at best, 2023 sees her come into the Elite Trophy as sixth seed. The 26-year-old enjoyed one of her deeper runs this year at the Zhengzhou Open two weeks ago but she suffered a consummate exit to Krejcikova, who went on to finish runner-up to Qinwen Zheng. Back Krejcikova to win outright inside an accumulator or consider straight sets on its own.
