THE PREDICTION
This looked set to be the Brisbane 500 final from the start this week and it should be a fascinating eighth edition of a burgeoning rivalry between last year’s Australian Open finalists. World number two Aryna Sabalenka came back from a set down to beat Elena Rybakina in that final in Melbourne but Rybakina won their next two encounters, including to win the Indian Wells final, before a their most recent clash went Sabalenka’s way in three sets at the WTA Finals last November. Sabalenka leads their head-to-head 5-2 but it should be noted that Rybakina has earned at least a set in all seven of those matches, with the only two to finish in straight sets going her way last year.
Both players have blasted through the competition this week to make huge statements as they approach the first major of the season but Rybakina has yet to have her serve broken, suggesting a tiebreak or two might be in the offing. Sabalenka has endured the tougher foes this week to still look the slight favourite here but the most sensible option in the markets is taking Rybakina to earn at least a set or for at least one tiebreak in the match.
TIP: ELENA RYBAKINA TO WIN A SET
