World number 119 Arthur Fils beat fellow qualifier Juan Manuel Cerundolo in three sets on Wednesday to maintain some strong form from the Aix-en-Provence Challenger last week. The 18-year-old is being touted as one to watch and he should draw a large support in this first meeting with fellow youngster Holger Rune, who is getting used to playing the villain already as someone who makes no effort not to rub people up the wrong way. The world number seven recently defended his Munich Open title on clay after an excellent run to the final of the Monte-Carlo Masters was ended by Andrey Rublev and that should simply be too hot to handle for Fils. However, Rune’s last three matches have gone to three sets as he continues to struggle with dips in concentration and, occasionally, cramping issues so backing the Dane to win outright is the suitably cautious move here.
