THE PREDICTION

This should be a fascinating final between world number five Andrey Rublev, the top seed here in Hong Kong, and number 69 Emil Ruusuvuori in uncharted waters. 24-year-old Ruusuvuori is far better than his current deflated ranking suggests but a maiden tour final is a surprise this early in the season after a drab 2023 suggested there was plenty of work to do. Victory over second seed Karen Khachanov in the round of 16 was hugely encouraging but back-to-back wins over in-form up-and-comers in Pavel Kotov and Sebastian Ofner since suggest he could cause a real upset here. 26-year-old Rublev needed to come back from a set down to oust 18-year-old Juncheng Shang on Saturday, his second three-setter on the spin after overcoming Arthur Fils, but he ultimately looked in control of he majority of his time on court this week.

Ruusuvuori sprung a surprise win over the Russian in three tight sets at the Cincinnati Masters last summer but Rublev leads their head-to-head 2-1 to look the solid favourite. The pair shared seven sets across two matches last year after Rublev came through a tough second round encounter at the Australian Open so back the Russian to win outright with three sets likelier than two.

TIP: ANDREY RUBLEV TO WIN
