World number 201 Andrea Vavassori grabbed an excellent early upset at the Marrakech Open with a three-set result over recent Chile Open champion Nicolas Jarry. The 27-year-old cane break his career-high ATP world ranking of 176th by reaching the quarter-finals here but world number 83 Jaume Munar is the strong favourite despite his recent poor form. 25-year-old Munar made it 5-8 for 2023 so far after ousting home hopeful Elliot Benchetrit in straight sets on Monday but it was not plain sailing for the Spaniard, who has struggled to find his best tennis for the best part of a year now on tour. A first meeting between these two sees Vavassori with nothing to lose against an opponent suffering poor form. Back the Italian to earn at least a set and leave the victor up to chance.
