THE PREDICTION

Former world number 11 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova returned from a near year-long absence last season with a vengeance, reaching the quarter-finals at Roland-Garros and semi-finals in Tokyo to fast-track herself back inside the top 60. The Russian stunned Beatriz Haddad-Maia in straight sets on Monday to build on strong work in qualifying but this looks as tough a test against in-form Katerina Siniakova, who beat Pavlyuchenkova en-route to the Hong Kong Open final last October. The 27-year-old upset fellow Czech Karolina Pliskova in commanding fashion on Tuesday to build on her own excellent qualifying round and she added two WTA titles to her career total of five last season, going under the radar somewhat whilst continuing to ply her illustrious doubles trade alongside Barbora Krejcikova.

Siniakova has won each of their last two matches but Pavlyuchenkova still leads 3-2 to make this one of the tougher picks of the day. Take Siniakova to earn at least a set, as she has done in each of their last three meetings, to leave the victor up to chance.
