THE PREDICTION

24-year-old Marketa Vondrousova moved back up to her career-high WTA world ranking of sixth, set after her fabulous victory at Wimbledon last summer, after enjoying a return to form in recent weeks. The Czech finished runner-up to Ash Barty at Roland-Garros in 2019 and she is probably still at her most effective on the surface, although last summer further proved that when she finds that elusive mixture of rhythm and fitness she can be world-beater anywhere.

World number 63 Ana Bogdan grabbed one of her best results in recent years with a straight-sets upset of Leylah Fernandez on Tuesday but this will be a much steeper challenger. The Romanian is also at her best on clay but it was around this time last season that Vondrousova really blossomed on tour, reaching the round of 16 in Rome. The pair share a 1-1 head-to-head, with Bogdan winning their only clay encounter at Roland-Garros back in 2018, but back the Czech to come through this test outright.

TIP: MARKETA VONDROUSOVA TO WIN
