THE PREDICTION

This is an unexpected quarter-final pairing between world number 79 Alexandre Muller and number 74 Taro Daniel, with both players upsetting seeded players in the round of 16. 26-year-old Muller grabbed the most impressive scalp with a consummate victory over third seed Francisco Cerundolo on Wednesday, and he will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of around 74th for his efforts, but 30-year-old Daniel impressed in a comprehensive result of his own over Max Purcell. This is now a huge opportunity for both players to reach a rare semi-final at this level, and a tough one to call as they meet for the first time, but Muller has played more matches this week after coming through qualifying and then arguably beaten the better players so far. Take the Frenchman to earn at least a set as the likelier of two capable victors to come through but leave this head-scratcher out of an accumulator.
