THE PREDICTION

24-year-old Fabian Marozsan could be one to watch this fortnight in Rome as the wide open ATP draw leaves plenty of room for a dark horse. The Hungarian burst onto the scene with an incredible upset of Carlos Alcaraz here last season, going on to reach the round of 16 before defeat to Borna Coric, and he has since enjoyed some fabulous campaigns at Masters level to set a career-high of 36th this week. World number 60 Alexander Shevchenko enjoyed his own tour breakthrough around this time last season with an excellent April spent in Madrid but he lost to Alcaraz comfortably there two weeks ago to bring a 1-3 record in clay into this first encounter with Marozsan. Recent defeats to Facundo Diaz Acosta and Francisco Cerundolo are of some small concern for Marozsan’s level coming into Rome but he can be backed to win this clash outright to get a foothold in the draw.

TIP: FABIAN MAROZSAN TO WIN
