THE PREDICTION

26-year-old Alexander Bublik set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 18th this week off the back of an excellent start to 2024. The 26-year-old won his fourth ATP title at the Montpellier Open in early February before finishing runner-up to Ugo Humbert at the Dubai Tennis Championships at the start of March but he was well-beaten by Alex de Minaur last time out in the third round of Indian Wells.

23-year-old Mateo Arnaldi beat fellow up-and-comer Arthur Fils in straight sets on Wednesday to move up to a career-high of 37th in the live ATP world rankings and he was the only player to take a set from Indian Wells champion Carlos Alcaraz two weeks ago. The Italian ended 2023 as a Davis Cup champion alongside Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Sonego, playing his part well with a vital win over Alexei Popyrin, and he will not fear facing another big-server here. If Bublik finds his rhythm, the heat here in Miami will certainly favour his hammer arm. Back the Kazakh to earn at least a set as the just-about likelier – in these conditions – to edge through a potential thriller.
