THE PREDICTION
Both 22-year-old Jiri Lehecka and Alex Michelsen brought career-high ATP world rankings into the Australian Open, with Lehecka coming in at 23rd after beating Jack Draper to the Adelaide title last weekend. The Czech still has a deficit to make after losing the ranking points from his remarkable run to the quarter-finals here last season but a straightforward opener over Bernabe Zapata Miralles on Tuesday suggests he could be a dark horse for the latter stages once again with all the tools to thrive in these conditions. 19-year-old Michelsen will break inside the top 90 for the first time after beating James McCabe in four sets on his Australian Open debut. The American reached the final of the Newport Open in only his second tour-level event last summer and he looks one to watch on the faster surfaces over the coming season. Lehecka should be too steep of a climb in quality at this stage, though. Back the Czech to win outright with three sets about as likely as four.
