World number 38 Alejandro Tabilo reached the quarter-finals of the Bucharest Open last week before losing out to an inspired eventual champion in Marton Fucsovics. The 26-year-old claimed his maiden ATP title at the Auckland Classic at the start of the year and he finished runner-up to Sebastian Baez on clay in Santiago a month later to establish this as his best season by far on tour already. World number 64 Flavio Cobolli is coming off a hammering by the returning Rafael Nadal in Barcelona last week but the Italian should be better here after looking like a deer in headlights against the clay-court king. 21-year-old Cobolli has generally struggled for form since the start of the clay swing, though, to offer Tabilo a kind enough foothold here in Madrid. Back the Chilean to win their first encounter, probably in straight sets.
