THE PREDICTION

World number 45 Alejandro Tabilo could be in for a huge week at the Monte-Carlo Open after enjoying the best year of his career so far. The 26-year-old stunned the field at the Auckland Classic in January, claiming his maiden ATP title, and he backed that up by finishing runner-up to Sebastian Baez at the Chile Open on clay early last month. A three-set exit to eventual runner-up Grigor Dimitrov at the Miami Open last time out was hugely impressive but this is no gimme against in-form Christopher O’Connell, who has qualified the hard way this weekend. The 29-year-old enjoyed a career-best run to the round of 16 in Miami last time out and he impressed on clay this time last season. Three sets seem likelier than two here so back Tabilo, with the better recent form on clay, to leave this result up to chance.
