THE PREDICTION

26-year-old Alejandro Tabilo will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 25th after continuing his incredible, so far spotless dream run, at the Italian Open with a fourth straight-sets win on the spin over Zhizhen Zhang on Wednesday. The Chilean upset a totally out-of-sorts Novak Djokovic in the third round to usurp the top seed’s draw but a clutch victory over Karen Khachanov in two tight tiebreaks on Tuesday is proof of his credentials in these conditions and he has nothing to lose in this biggest match of his career.

World number five Alexander Zverev has been here and done it, claiming his first of five career Masters titles in Rome way back in 2017, and he looks the reasonably solid title contender just ahead of Stefanos Tsitsipas from the remaining decimated draw. The German is also through to the semi-finals without dropping a set after an impressive performance against Taylor Fritz on Wednesday and he has already shut down one plucky upstart this fortnight home hopeful Luciano Darderi.

Tabilo’s positive clay game will win over plenty of neutrals in this likely thriller but a first meeting with the 27-year-old should prove one step too far in conditions that Zverev can be confident in. Take the German to reach the final.

TIP: ALEXANDER ZVEREV TO WIN
