THE PREDICTION

This should be an entertaining scrap between two excellent clay-courters. World number 27 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has it all to prove after a sorry first round exit to Sebastian Korda in Monte-Carlo last week but he has yet to play in Barcelona after Tomas Machac was forced to withdraw from their second round fixture yesterday. World number 59 Dusan Lajovic may have the upper hand on momentum, then, after an excellent season-best ranking win over Ugo Humbert in straight sets on Wednesday. The 33-year-old won the Banja Luka Open title this time last season with two stunning results over Novak Djokovic and Andrey Rublev, to prove his talents on this surface, but he failed to qualify in Monte-Carlo last week to make this a tough call. Lajovic has won both previous encounters with Davidovich Fokina in straight sets, including ion clay in Rome four years ago, so back the Serb to earn at least one here to leave the victor up to chance. Home advantage heavily favours the wayward Spaniard.

TIP: DUSAN LAJOVIC TO WIN A SET
