ALEJANDRO DAVIDOVICH FOKINA VS CASPER RUUD PREDICTION

World number seven Casper Ruud avoided a tough opening draw when Jakub Mensik was forced to pull out of Roland-Garros, beating replacement Felipe Alves in straight sets to make it five wins on the spin.

The 23-year-old played two matches on Saturday due to rain in Geneva but he won a third title there, taking his career total up to 12, and he only recently won his most prestigious trophy at the Barcelona 500 to bring some serious clay form to Paris. Ruud finished runner-up to Rafael Nadal here in 2022 and to Novak Djokovic last summer, each in straight sets, with this fortnight almost certainly the best chance he will ever have at claiming a maiden Grand Slam title.

World number 32 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina came back from a set down to beat Valentin Vacherot on Tuesday but the streaky Spaniard should be considered a serious threat to Ruud in this likely thriller.

The pair share a 2-2 head-to-head record in which all but one of their matches went to a deciding set but Davidovich Fokina leads 1-0 on clay after upsetting the Norwegian in the third round here back in 2021. Expect sets to go both ways once again, particularly with the cold conditions in Paris slowing conditions, but take Ruud to eventually find a way through.
